Yet-to-be-released video game “Battlefield 1” [release date: October 21, 2016] may be turned into a television series. Paramount has optioned the rights to the Battlefield video game with the intent to possibly adapt it as a television series.
The entire “Battlefield” video game franchise – which debuted in 2002 – may be part of the deal to adapt it for TV – not just the latest installment, “Battlefield 1”. The popular franchise has reportedly gathered more than 60 million players and is likely to expand that amount when “Battlefield 1” is launched in a few months.
Paramount is hoping for better success than Fox after a previous game in the Battlefield franchise – “Battlefield: Bad Company” – never made it out of Fox’s TV development hell four years ago.
